Psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and ongoing care

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation focused on understanding your current concerns, symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, medications, previous treatment, functioning, safety, and treatment goals.

When appropriate, we will discuss diagnostic impressions and develop an individualized treatment plan. Treatment recommendations may include medication, additional evaluation, coordination with other providers, psychotherapy recommendations, or other appropriate services.

Ongoing medication-management visits focus on effectiveness, side effects, safety, functioning, and progress toward treatment goals.

Depending on individual needs, care may include starting or adjusting psychiatric medications, reviewing laboratory or other clinical information, medication education, brief supportive interventions, and coordination with other healthcare professionals.

ADHD evaluation is based on clinical history, current symptoms, functioning, developmental history, previous treatment, and other information relevant to determining whether ADHD is the best explanation for the concerns being evaluated.

When appropriate, additional rating scales, records, collateral information, or computerized assessment may be used. Treatment may include stimulant or non-stimulant medication, education, monitoring, and practical strategies for managing symptoms.

Controlled medications require appropriate monitoring and follow-up in accordance with practice policies.

NH Psychiatry provides medication-focused psychiatric care for adolescents experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood symptoms, and other appropriate outpatient psychiatric conditions.

Care is individualized to the adolescent’s developmental needs. Parents or caregivers are involved when appropriate, while allowing space for the adolescent to participate meaningfully in treatment and develop greater independence in managing their health.

NH Psychiatry provides evaluation and medication management for adults experiencing a range of outpatient psychiatric concerns.

Common areas of treatment include depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, trauma-related symptoms, bipolar-spectrum disorders, sleep-related concerns, irritability, emotional dysregulation, and other psychiatric conditions appropriate for outpatient care.

NH Psychiatry offers Spravato® (esketamine), an FDA-approved nasal medication administered in a monitored clinical setting for eligible adults with treatment-resistant depression.

Treatment begins with a clinical evaluation to determine whether Spravato is appropriate. Insurance authorization may also be required. Each treatment is administered in the office followed by the required observation and safety-monitoring period.

Eligibility, treatment frequency, expected benefits, potential risks, and practical considerations are reviewed before treatment begins.

In-person appointments are available at our office in Alton, New Hampshire. Telehealth appointments are also available when clinically appropriate and permitted by applicable licensing and prescribing requirements.

Some appointments or treatments may require an in-person visit. Your provider will let you know when in-person care is necessary.
